Friday, August 29th, 2008  The ZRR team came to MIS to race for the last season points night and race they did.  Zack was sitting in 7th place for points going into the night and needed a GOOD night to move up to 6th for 2008 final placement.  Result for qualifying was 17.930 (5th).  Several adjustments were made and the team was set for 50 laps of feature racing.  A good car and good driving turned into a 3rd place - good enough to move up to 6th in Points for 2008 in Zack's Rookie Year in the SuperLate.  Congrats to Nathan on his 2008 Championship - he truly deserved it!  Next up for racing at MIS is the Miller Lite Fall Classic September 19 & 20th.  Several end of season specials at other tracks are being looked at & we'll update when the choices are made.  Welcome to Brian Schotliff - the newest crew member for ZRR. Brian has been chosen to take a recently vacated crew spot and his help has been great.  Brian lives in Brooklyn and has spent alot of time at the ZRR shop and in the pits working hard for Zack. Below is John Wells article and a few pictures including one in after race tech - MIS had Zack's Wegner motor checked VERY well and he passed with flying colors. See you at the Track!

Haseleu, Kalbus, Ace & McNamara Win Championship at MIS - by John Wells - MIS Media - Friday, August 29, 2008

Madison International Speedway crowned four new track champions tonight as part of the Pepsi Season Championships. Nathan Haseleu won his first-ever track championship at MIS in the Weaver Auto Parts while Jay Kalbus (Bryden Motors Area Sportsman), Chester Ace (Roto Rooter Bandits), and Max McNamara (Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends) also won their first titles at MIS. The Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models will finish their season next week with Twin 40’s as part of First Supply Tribute to America Night.

Wilberg Speeds to Victory - Bobby Wilberg picked up his first feature victory of the season by winning the 50 lap feature for the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Models. Andrew Morrissey and Jacob Humphrey brought the field of thirteen super late models to the green flag with Humphrey taking the early lead closely followed by Zack Riddle. Humphrey would be unable to hold off the hard-charging Riddle who passed him for the lead on lap 9. Nathan Haseleu would power by Humphrey for second one lap later with Wilberg right behind him. The first caution of the race came out on lap 14 for a spin in turn two. Riddle would continue to hold the point following the restart until lap 19 when Haseleu worked his way to the inside going into turn three and cleared Riddle to take the lead coming out of turn four. Not to be outdone, Wilberg would take over the second position from Riddle on lap 20. Wilberg would continue his pursuit of Haseleu closing the gap with each lap. Finally, on lap 41 Wilberg worked his way to the inside and passed the leader coming out of turn two. From that point on and despite a caution flag coming out for a spin on lap 45, this race belonged to Wilberg who held off Haseleu for the win. Rounding out the top five were Riddle, Morrissey, and Steve Rubeck.

Wilberg set fast time with a lap of 17.669. “This is a nice win for us. We’ve been doing a lot of different things with our super late model team this year and things haven’t always gone so well for us. We’ve tried some things with the chassis this season so this is a good win,” said Wilberg. “My hat’s off to Nate (Haseleu) for winning the championship. He’s race and won a lot here in the past but just wasn’t able to run every week,” added Wilberg. As a result of his second place finish, Haseleu won his first-ever track championship at Madison International Speedway. Having won other track championships along with titles in two traveling series, the Pardeeville, Wisconsin, driver told the crowd how much the track championship means to him. “This championship means a lot to me. I’ve grown up racing here over the years but never really had the chance to run every week for a championship so it means a lot to me and to Swiss Colony and everyone who helps out on the car. I’d also like to thank all of the fans for coming out and supporting racing here at Madison.” Finishing second in the point race was Steve Rubeck followed by Andrew Morrissey.

Just Announced by MIS... Zack has been selected as the 2008 Madison International Speedway Super Late Model Rookie of the Year! THANK YOU to everyone who made this possible!

Tuesday, August 26, 2008  LOTS more changes took place to the ZRR car over the week - setups and small things the team were hoping would work.. they did.  Timing in 3rd quick and feature racing had Zack looking good - 2nd, that was until 4 laps to go to the finish.  On the restart Zack tangled with Dan Lensing which resulted in an 11th place finish.  Repairs are going on as we type & now racing at MIS is down to one more event for 2008 points... Friday, August 29th for Season Championship Night.  It was GREAT to see Andrew & Mitchell Homburg at the track.  Also, it was good to have Stevie with us for the racing weekend.  The team was a little short in the pits due to Brett's "Gus" BAD car accident and Mikey's first Varsity Football game for New Glarus - but they made due. Pic's from Friday are up (including one of Tyler Kelly in the Limited Late Model.. he's doing a fantastic job his first year in the class) and John Wells of MIS Media's article is following.  Zack currently sit's 7th in Season Championship point's which isn't too shabby considering it's his first year in a Super Late and his motor failure at the Kenseth Special - prior to Zielger Crane Service and Wegner Automotive stepping up to help out. HOPE you were able to catch Zack & Mikey on Monday's ESPN RacingRoundup show last night in Milwaukee.  Here's the link http://www.racingroundup.net - click on "Archived Shows".  Thank you to Dave Grueneberg from MIS and Pete from ABC and the ASA Educational Series for sending Zack and our student Mikey to the show.  Hope to see you at MIS for the final points night.

Article Courtesy of Mr. John Wells - MIS Media  Steve Rubeck raced to victory lane for the fourth time in 2008 as he outpaced the fifteen car field in the 40 lap feature for the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Models. Rubeck came into the night trailing Nathan Haseleu by 111 points in the point race and made up some ground as he now trails Haseleu by 67 points going into the final night next week. Fifteen cars answered the call for the 40 lap feature event for the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Models with Andrew Morrissey and Todd Kluever comprising the front row. Morrissey, driving a different car tonight, took the lead from the start followed by Kluever, Jacob Humphrey, Frank Kreyer, and Dale Prunty. Bobby Wilberg was up to fourth by lap 4 closely followed by Rubeck. On lap 7 Wilberg had moved to third with Rubeck moving up to fourth on lap 9. By lap 11 Haseleu had made his way up to sixth before the caution flag came out on lap 12 for a spin. After the restart Wilberg quickly moved by Humphrey for second with Rubeck up to third two laps later. By lap 17 Haseleu had not only cracked the top five but had moved past both Rubeck and Humphrey to take the third spot. Things would get very interesting on the next lap. With Morrissey leading Wilberg was ready to make his move. Coming out of turn four the two made contact with Morrissey spinning into the infield. For their involvement both drivers would be sent to the rear of the field. This awarded the lead to Haseleu followed by Rubeck, Humphrey, Zack Riddle and Kreyer. When the race resumed Haseleu vaulted to the lead and looked like he would be headed to his fourth feature win in the last five races and not only add to his point lead at MIS but in the national ASA points race. Despite a couple of cautions for spins and mechanical issues, Haseleu continued to show the most speed and a win seemed very likely. But in racing things can happen very quickly and tonight they did. Suddenly while coming out of turn four on lap 36 smoke poured out from the back of Haseleu’s car which brought out the caution flag and ended his night. As a result, Rubeck would take over the top spot followed by Riddle, Dan Lensing, Kluever, and Wilberg who had worked his way all the way back to fifth.

On the restart contact between Riddle and Lensing would bring out the caution flag again with Lensing going to the back and Riddle done for the night due to damage.
Rubeck would continue to lead once the green flag came out again and hold off the field for the remaining four laps to win his fourth feature of the season. Rounding out the top five were Kluever, Wilberg, Kreyer, and Morrissey. Hasleu set fast time with a lap of 17.803 (101.107 mph)

Friday, August 15, 2008   After the many changes made to the 93 Monte Carlo over the week the team was ready to race! A beautiful night in Wisconsin was on tap with plenty of folks in the stands for Swiss Colony Night at MIS.  It was great to see friend Stan Milam make his first race at MIS of the year.  Stan is a frequent reporter for Wisconsin Newspapers and anchors his own radio talk show Monday thru Friday on WCLO 1230AM.  Stan is a former competitor in the two cycle gokart who the team enjoyed traveling and racing with.  Stan penned an article on Zack for the Wisconsin State Journal hilighting his last year of kart racing and also wrote an article on Zack's first race at MIS which was published in the Wiscosin Sports Weekly. Here's a link to Stan's show.  http://wclo.com/stan-milam-show/

Practice went good which had hopes high.   The scuff session took place with the two new right side tires per night allowed and the team ended up with a BIG question.   Zack felt the car slipping on track - seeming to be a slipping clutch- so much so that it was visable to observers. The team checked and rechecked but could not find the problem. This left a big IF for race time.  With NO HEATS for the supers the decision had to be made to race or not - Zack made the decision to race.   Qualifying was good-7th with an 18.22.   Much more checking and rechecking took place to the 93.. nothing was found. Feature draw had Zack starting outside the second row.  After MUCH deliberation the decision was made to start the feature in the tail. IF the clutch was the problem Zack did not want to cause a problem for another team or himself. After a hard feature Zack ended the night in 9th (and with the car in one piece) HARD racing took place back there.  When the car came back to the pits following the race Zack checked a "line" that he had drawn on the tire and the rim (an old gokart check) and unfortunately it looked like the two new tires were not "sealed" correctly. There was a HUGE diference in where the tire & rim started to where they ended.  So, a "good bad" night was the result and the team is looking for big things these last two MIS points nights.  Zack is currently in 7th place leading the Rookie of the Year standings.  The team hopes to see you at MIS!

CONGRATS to Tyler Kelley on his 9th place finish Friday in the Limited Late Model Feature.  Tyler is moving up every week and the results are proving that. STEVIE is coming home for the races Friday night at MIS. Welcome home!

UPDATE: Check out the newly added GSLastLap page.. Gary Schmelzer will be adding reports from his "eye" on racing.  Gary (also known as the "Human Race Computer") has viewed and documented more racing than most of us combined.  Often seen with his trusty notebook and a smile on his face in the pits, Gary will be adding his articles on Midwest Racing for everyone to enjoy.  Welcome Gary!

Thursday, August 14, 2008   The Team is loading up for Friday's Swiss Colony Night at MIS. 40 Laps of Super Late Model Racing are on tap. LOTS of adjustments for race night have happened this week. Stay tuned for results or better yet... see you at the track!

Friday, August 8, 2008   Friday's weather was great for racing.   After lots of work on the 93 over the week the team was looking for good results for tonight's race.   After Zack's first practice, it was found there was NO power steering in the car.   The decision to race "old school" or load up was considered and Zack made the call to race.   MUCH thanks goes out to the friends who supplied parts at the track to try and repair the problem.   Starting third row inside in a CRAZY race, melee took place a few laps in.   Zack was hit from behind   in the mess and ended up loosing his rear deck lid   -   Andrew & Shane Morrissey and Frank Kreyer were involved.   We were sorry to see Andrew & Shane   take the hard hits they did in turn three.   Making the call to stay on track was what Zack wanted and after a caution filled race the results were a final finish of 4th. Three races to go in the points chase for 2008 and the team hopes to see you there for the final 3!

Haseleu Best in Supers - Courtesy of John Wells Zack & Nathan for the Lead - 8/8/08 MIS

Nathan Haseleu made it two wins in as many weeks as he picked up the checkered flag in the 40 lap feature for the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Models. Fourteen cars took the green flag in the 40 lap feature for the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Models. Kyle Kinder and Shane Morrissey brought the field to the green with Steve Rubeck splitting the difference to go side by side with Kinder for early supremacy. The caution flag waved early as the cars of cousins Shane and Andrew Morrissey got together going into turn three on the second lap. Both cars suffered heavy damage thus ending the night early for both drivers.

Kinder and Rubeck would continue to battle it out side by side before Rubeck made an inside pass coming out of turn four on lap 6. By lap 10 Zack Riddle had moved up to second followed by Jacob Humphrey, Kinder, and Haseleu. Following a spin on lap 15, the caution flag came out on the restart resulting in Rubeck being sent to the rear of the field and moving Riddle to the lead followed by Haseleu, Humphrey, Bobby Wilberg, and Dave Feiler.

Riddle’s lead would be short-lived as Haseleu took to the inside coming out of turn 3 and flew by Riddle to take the lead. By lap 20 Wilberg was up to second but Haseleu was cruising. For a variety of mechanical reasons, several cars had dropped out of the field leaving only seven cars on the track at one point. On lap 32 Rubeck had moved back up to third, but neither Wilberg or Rubeck would have enough for Haseleu who picked up his second win in as many weeks. “Things are going well for the team,” said Haseleu who added to his points lead. Haseleu also set fast time with a lap of 17.626 for the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Models.

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008   The team is finalizing setups for MIS and the Double 50 Lap Features this Friday, August 1st in honor of Union 464.   A BIG payday should make for outstanding racing. Over 1,100 past and present Union members will be visiting MIS for the race along with our own family of employees   from Homburg Inc.   The City of Madison Engineering department has a large group also attending so it should make for an exciting night.     The last two weeks of off time from the track have had MANY adjustments being made to the car and the team is looking for Big Results.     Ontrack awards also will be presented to our ASA Educational Series student Mike Hanson presented from CircleTrack Magazine.   Kids Club Members... remember to have Mom or Dad bring you down to the hauler AFTER the races to get a picture with Zack and pick up your pair of cool black and green sun shades. Zack's hauler is the first one straight ahead of you as you come into the pits from the hill directly across from the tech shed.   Look for the big "HOMBURG INC." decal. Hope to see you there!

Friday, July 11, 2008   Wow!! It was GREAT to be back on track at MIS in the super late!!   THANK YOU to Ziegler Crane Service and Wegner Automotive for helping the team to get us back on track!   No heats were scheduled so the set up was critical for tonight.   Timing in 6th out of the field with no heat races had the team wondering about setup for the feature.   50 Laps were on tap with very limited time on track with the new power plant.   CRAZY racing took place and thru good driving Zack finished the feature in 4th right behind Nathan Haselau, Steve Rubeck and Frank Kreyer.   Congrats to Nathan on his great move to pass Rubeck on the outside on the last lap.   More adjustments are being made and look for Zack Friday, August 1st for the 100 lap feature.. the longest of the 2008 regular season.   Construction Labor Management night and the awards to our student team member on track (Mike Hanson)   will take place along with Circle Track Magazine being on hand.   THANK YOU to the crew for ALL your hard work during the last   weeks to get Zack back on track.   See you Then!

Tuesday, June 24, 2008   Well... timing in 20th for the RK Productions All Star Challenge had Zack missing making the field automatically by   4 spots.   THANK YOU to Roy Kenseth for voting Zack into the feature as Promoters Choice which enabled him to advance to the feature without having to run a qualifer.   Chad Wood & Frank Kreyer also got the nod from Roy on advancing.   A FULL stands were on hand to witness the race and hopes were high..   UNFORTUNATELY Zack was passing Frank Kreyer when   the motor   "Let Go" -   ZRR has never had this   happen and   finishing the feature 23rd was   not the results   the team was looking   for.   This left the team in a tough spot for the rest of the 2008 season.     THANKS to ZIEGLER CRANE SERVICE   and WEGNER AUTOMOTIVE a new power plant is on the way. The change however will not allow the team to compete Friday June 27 at MIS.   Lots of hard work is in store but keep an eye out for Zack Friday July 11th back at MIS.   MIS has NO racing scheduled for Friday July 4th.   Enjoy your holiday!

On Track Autographs

Monday, June 23, 2008   The team is loading up and heading to MIS for the All Star Showdown featuring Tony Stewart, Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch & David Stremme along with the best in the Midwest for the big event at Zack's hometrack.   This years race will be broadcast live on 1070 WTSO ESPN radio. The team is hoping to drive in with Tyler Kelley and his Limited Late Model so we can keep an eye on him & help out where we can. As of a short while ago more than 20 haulers   are in line to enter so if you are looking for Zack in the pits.. he will NOT be in his usual spot... this is a "Special" race.   Stay tuned for updates & hope to see you there. Also... THANK YOU to Bill & Zipper Starr from "Down South"for checking out Zack's progress..Hope you can make a race up here this season!

Friday, June 20, 2008   A great night of racing at MIS after a 3 week layoff due to rain and a non-scheduled race night at MIS took place.   Results were timing in 6th with an 18.000 lap, and   4th in   the heat race.   Feature time came and resulted in a 6th place finish for the 40 Lap Tech Night race.   It was great to see a few new teams hit MIS for the regular show.   Congrats to Tyler Kelley for his great run in the Limited. Tyler has come a long way from the bandit division on the quarter mile   in a hurry. The team will be BUSY in the next two days working on   set up's for Tuesday's RK Productions Special at MIS.   NASCAR drivers Tony Stewart, Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch and David Stremme will be joining the best in the Midwest racing at MIS.   Zack will be taking on quite an impressive field at his home track.   A 100 lap feature is on tap with a pit stop at lap 50.     The race will be broadcast live on 1070-WTSO with lots of media coverage.   Plan on attending.   Fireworks will follow the race. Load in time for the team is 7am on Tuesday with racing Tuesday night - qualifiers at 7pm.   We'll try and update live from the track.   After Tuesday's Special regular points racing resumes Friday June 27th for the Gordie Boucher Firework Spectacular at MIS. Three race events in one week... the crew will be PLENTY busy!   If you've never seen the firework display at MIS you're in for a treat.   Kid Club Members... make sure you have Mom or Dad bring you down to the trailer after the races and pick up your cool pair of ZRR shades - LimeGreen & Black! Thank you to SA for the donation.  Meet Zack and the team -   grab a treat from the candy bowl & have your picture taken for the website!

Friday, June 13, 2008   With no super late model racing at MIS and no oval kart racing at LaCrosse due to rain the ZRR Crew   hit the pits at MIS to crew for Tyler Kelley racing in the Limited Late Model class.   Zack and crew invaded Tyler's pits and helped out where they could, Zack spotted for Tyler for race night and Chad, Wes and Nick helped out in setups.   Tyler needed to make his way to the feature thru the last chance race and kudo's to Tyler... second in the   qualifer gave him a staring place in the   feature. Adjustments were made all night and Tyler had a GREAT one finising his feature in 13th!   Congrats Tyler!!!   Check out Zack in the SuperLate and Tyler in the Limited this Friday at MIS! Hope to see you there!

Friday, June 6, 2008   SORRY but we have a RAIN OUT for the second time this season.   With no Super Late Model Racing on tap Zack - Cody & ZRCE Karting are headed to LaCrosse for oval kart racing.   Stay Tuned for Results and just a reminder... the Super Late Model's are OFF Next Friday June 13th   at MIS - Check Zack out Friday June 20th!

GREAT first showing for MIS's opening night.   Zack timed in with a 17.729 - QUICK TIME.   This was Zack's First Quick Qualifier Award at MIS. Heat results were a "tryout" for some adjustments that were made for the car.   Feature time had Zack starting last.  Tied up in traffice for the first 15 laps or so made the difference in the final results - 4th.   Steve Rubeck won followed closely by Nathan Haseleu, Andrew Morrissey and Zack.   The team is VERY happy with opening night's results and are looking for a GREAT 2008 season. No racing this Friday the 16th but check Zack out Friday May 23rd for his second points night at MIS. CONGRATS to Tyler Kelley for finishing his first feature in the Limited Late Model race.

Want to check out a video   of Zack's first ASA Midwest race   at MIS? -read below & click on the link.   Sorry bad luck struck on lap 40 for Zack when he tangled with David Feiler & then was hit by Andy Monday who had nowhere to go, but it shows the start and racing action. Enjoy!

Good practice for the ZRR team at MIS.  New setup, motor and other thing's had the team questioning how today would go.  Results were good.  Because of this, the team will NOT be practicing next Saturday, May 3rd at MIS.  Why?? If Zack did practice he would not be able to race Sunday, May 4th's ASA Midwest race due to their "7day prior to racing" rule.  So.... Zack will be taking on the best in the Midwest Super LateModel racing series with a car with one practice day on it. Challenging to say the least the team feel's confident about the decison. Also racing at MIS will be Kyle Busch.  Stay tuned and we'll keep everyone informed on updates. It was GREAT to see Jason Anderson, back on leave from the AirForce back at MIS.  Jason and Ruth will be the new parents of a baby girl in about 2 months.  Congrats to them! Here's a few pic's from today.

Check it out!  Ambitious to say the least, ZRR will be attempting to make their mark and move up to a Super Late Model and is looking for BIG things.  Also, CONGRATULATIONS to team member, Chad Peat on his recent diploma! Wednesday, February 20, 2008 The race shop is BUSY preparing for the 2008 Season. MANY changes are being made to the car and powerplant. Stay Tuned!

Sunday, January 20, 2008- The 2007 Madison International Speedway Banquet was held last night at the Heights Center of Stoughton and thank you to the folks who joined the team. Zack took to the stage to accept his 4th place award for the season and Congratulations goes out to Bobby Wilberg on his 2007 Championship. The announcement was made by MIS that in 2008, the ASA LateModels will have the option of moving to a Limited LateModel, or up to a Super LateModel - both divisions will be racing at MIS. While they are allowing the crate cars in either, after MUCH discussion, the team has decided to move Zack up to a Super. This move will require a different motor package, and many changes to the car.  This move will also allow Zack the flexibility to be competitive at other Midwest tracks.  The schedule at this point, will have Zack racing all of the MIS races along with an ASAMidwest Tour race, a WCS race, and June's Kenseth and Stewart race.  Last year, Zack made his super late debut in Don "Thunder" Turner's backup car where he finished 17th out of 35.  Two new tires per night will be needed (same as 2007).  This is a HUGE jump for the team, and we're looking for big things.  Stay tuned and when a motor package is decided, we'll announce it.  Lots of pic's were taken, and will be posted shortly.  Below is a pre-banquet photo of the crew - Wes, Brett, Pete and Zack.
