2005’s goals were in place, with a run for top 15 finishes, and Rookie of the Year, being the youngest weekly driver on the track.
May 6, 2005, was the season opener for Zack at MIS.Zack timed in 12th out of 22 drivers, and finished the feature in 11th place.Zack’s performance generated a news article in Wisconsin Sports Weekly, distributed to over 170 local retailers.
Eleven more events were held at MIS.Highlighting the year was the August 5th event, where Zack was forced to start at the rear of the pack of 23 cars.Making his way through the field, Zack finished a career high of 5th, besting former NASCAR truck racer, Bryan Reffner with a late race pass, hunting down 4th when time ran out. On rare off weekends at MIS, Zack raced at the Dells Motor Speedway.In his first feature there, Zack finished in 7th place.
2005’s MIS Feature results included: 1 top 5, 2 top 10’s, and 9 top 15’s.Final placement at the end of the year had Zack in 12th place overall.Fifty-one racers raced the ASA class, with an average of nearly thirty each event. The Rookie of the Year Award went to 26-year-old veteran driver Dave Gentile who had a background in other classes at other tracks, before making his way to MIS.
