After accomplishing all goals that had been made for Zack's karting career, the decision was made by the team to advance to the next step, an American Speed Association Late Model, and race at his true home track, Madison International Speedway. MIS is located in Oregon, Wisconsin, and is Wisconsin's fastest 1/2 mile paved oval. A used Lefthander chassis and a new Chevrolet sealed motor was added, and from the ground up, the car was built by Zack and his Dad.
June 1, 2004, the fifteen year old driver hit the track for the first time at Wisconsin Dells Motor Speedway. Using a radio for the first time and communicating with his crew in the pits, Zack quickly picked the line to use and was all smiles afterwords. June 26, 2004, Zack took his first laps at MIS, running the track with local stars, Ron Breese Jr., his uncles Jared Ziegler and David Feiler, Todd Kluever and Travis Kvapill. What a group for your first time on the track! July 10, 2004, Zack took to the track for his first attempt at qualifying. Holding his line, and finishing his first event at MIS was a great accomplishment for the now 15 year old driver. He was the youngest weekly driver attempting to make his way to victory lane in the class. Six more events were raced at MIS, which reserved Zack the chance to make a run for 2005's Rookie of the Year.
Running only those races, Zack finished 27th in points out of 55 drivers.
