2000 –At the age of 10, Zack climbed behind the wheel of a kart, and never looked back, debuting at Sugar River Raceway in Brodhead, WI. Winning his first feature his third time on the track, was the starting spot for a phenomenal rookie year.The ½ mile asphalt track started legendary racers such as Scott Pruett, Alan Kulwicki and Joe Shear. The Rookie of the Year award, winning the Don Fairman Memorial Race and Aaron Anderson Memorial Award capped off Zack’s first year of racing. Zack was showcased at the Annual Toys for Tots Event held in Madison, hosted by radio channel Q106. Cold weather did not slow him down, and never racing indoor before, Zack entered the events held in Sharron, WI and won seven out of eight features held.
2001-Spring rolled out and with approval from Marshall Fairman, director of Sugar River, Zack was allowed to race the HPV 2Cycle class that included a minimum age of 16.Racing a blue print 4cycle Briggs along with the 2cycle, resulted in 14 Feature Wins and 46 Top Fives. Along with weekly racing at Sugar River, Zack joined the Midwest Sprint Series, the World Karting Associations divisional for the Midwest. Zack raced in South Bend IN, Norway IL, Springfield IL, Dousman WI and Road America. Final placement at the end of his year had Zack fifth in the Briggs 4cycle class, and third in the HPV2cycle class. Again, when winter came, Zack took on the kart racing world in Indianapolis, IN, for more indoor racing, finishing runner up on the last race of the year, nosed out by the season champion.
2002 – Zack took the option of moving up an age group,and in following a grueling Midwest Sprint Series travel series, finished runner up in the Briggs4cycle class, and seventh in the HPV2cycle class.Winter brought another series of trips to Indianapolis for the indoor circuit, and results were supreme.
2003 – The decision was made to run for the Midwest Championship and dual Junior Titles.On Zack’s first trip to a National Race, he took the pole besting a field of 43 karts.A podium finish was the result, and the Discovery Channel hosted a special on Gold Cup Racing, which was shown in a three part prime time series.Fans were able to watch Zack race to the front at South Bend, IN, and Beaver Run, PA. Ending the 2003 series, Zack was crowned Best in the Midwest, winning 7 out of 10 races and dual Junior Championships in the toughest Kart touring series of the Nation.At the 2003 Midwest Sprint Series Banquet held at Madison’s East Side Businessmen’s Club, Zack accepted his dual Championship's, and thanked his Sponsors, Crew and Series for an unforgettable year.
